#6 – explore dance festival for young audience

Fokus Tanz München presented explore dance Festival #6 in May 2025 and invited children, young people, families, school classes and teachers to experience contemporary dance in all its diversity. In addition to current explore dance productions, the company Second Hand Dance (UK) was a guest with The Sticky Dance. The varied supporting programme also included a specialist day for teachers and discourse events. After 11 performances at schools, in the theatre and in public spaces, after 10 educational formats and numerous exclusive discussions with the artists, we would like to say THANK YOU – to all visitors, artists, our cooperation partners, the HochX Theatre and the Munich City Library in Motorama!

The festival in numbers:

• 6 performances at the theatre
• 3 performances at schools
• 1 performance at the university
• 1 performance in public space
• 20 participating school classes
• 10 mediation formats
• 600 young people reached

What a week: We explored new spaces and reached a diverse audience. We explored the topic of ‘spaces for all’ from different perspectives and discussed the accessibility of cultural offerings and opening strategies. Cultural policy and academic voices met practitioners and artists. We were able to give almost 30 teachers and student teachers an insight into our work and the field of the independent performing arts as well as the special opportunities and challenges of working with young people. We danced, ate, talked, laughed and cried together!
