Productions

explore dance is building a sustainable structure for the production of contemporary dance pieces for young audiences and by doing so, is filling a gap in the field of cultural programs for children and teenagers.

Throughout the 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21 seasons, established choreographers will be invited to Potsdam, Munich and Hamburg to develop and present new works for young audiences. The pieces will essentially target an age group between 5 and 15 years of age.

Every season will feature a total for six world premieres that are shown in all three respective partner cities. Every partner city will produce two formats – a mobile pop-up piece technically simple enough to be shown in classrooms or public spaces and a stage production. During the rehearsal phase, the artists will enter into direct exchange with children and teenagers and include them in their creative process via various mediation formats such as workshops, visits to rehearsals and research sessions. Every year, there will be a festival at rotating different locations, which presents all productions of that season in a single week. The festival moreover offers the chance to engage in exchange, to partake in thematic labs, workshops and professional development formats, as well as conferences.
