Dance works – opportunities, potentials and challenges of dance in schools

Cultural policy panel

The network’s experience shows that interest and participation in contemporary formats for children and young people in the field of cultural education have steadily increased in recent years. Reasons for this include coping with the effects of the corona pandemic, dealing with questions of perception and the role of the body in an increasingly changing world and the desire for shared sensory experiences.

At the same time, polarization in many political debates, the noticeable shift to the right in large parts of society, worsening budgetary situations in the states and municipalities and a growing workload in many schools are making the implementation of cultural education offerings more difficult or calling it into question.

Anikó Glogowski-Merten (FDP), member of the Bundestag and member of the Cultural Committee, Simona Koß (SPD), member of the Bundestag and member of the Cultural Committee, Ceren Oran (choreographer), Beate van den Branden (teacher and consultant in the advisory and support system for schools (BUSS) in the Brandenburg an der Havel school authority), young people from the JugendTanzCompany of fabrik Potsdam as well as local and international guests and spectators of the festival will discuss the current opportunities, potential and challenges in the field of dance in schools. Moderation: Christine Watty (Editor-in-chief and presenter at Deutschlandfunk Kultur Berlin)
