
MAY ZARHY
Born in 1984, choreographer May Zarhy is a graduate of the Rotterdam Dance Academy and the choreographic programme ex.e.r.ce in Montpellier, France. She has worked with William Forsythe and and founded the collaborative trio mamaza with Fabrice Mazliah and Ioannis Mandafounis. Zarhy’s work moves within a broader definition of choreography between stage, site-specific and participatory performances. She is particularly fascinated by the relationship between the mediums of dance and music.
Since 2015 she has shared her work between Israel and Germany, creating works such as: YES (2015, Diver Festival) and the VOICES (2017, Diver Festival) in collaboration with vocalist Michal Oppenheim, NEXT TO NEAR (2017, Sophiensaele Berlin) in collaboration with Hermann Heisig, the site-specific tour Kol Yom (2018, Loving Art Festival) together with musician Elad Bardes. Since 2017, she has curated her video screening series ‘Cinemay – Choreographic Cinema’, organised by the Center of Contemporary Art Tel Aviv. Zarhy also works as a dramaturge for other artists, such as: Shira Eviatar, Fabrice Mazliah, Hermann Heisig, Adi Boutrous etc. She teaches at the School of Visual Theatre Jerusalem, K3 Hamburg, Kelim Center Bat Yam and others.
