Formats for Educators

explore dance offers a multi-faceted introduction to the field of contemporary dance for students and teachers. In addition to standard visits to performances, you can also accompany the creation of a contemporary dance piece with your class in the form of workshops and visits to rehearsals, thus getting to know artistic methods of working up close. Our productions are always developed in close cooperation with schools. By participating in the rehearsal process, the students become experts on topics of their own and are encouraged to create and to trust in their own spaces of experience. The “Pop-Up Piece” format even allows a dance production to be created directly in your school or to be presented in the classroom.

In addition to our outreach programme for school classes, our formats for educators offer chances to delve more deeply in the subject of theatre and associated topics. In workshops, we teach artistic practices, dance techniques and feedback methods to integrate contemporary dance into the classroom.

HAMBURG —
Professional Development in Contemporary Dance for Teachers

With the help of a newly created outreach and professional development programme for teachers of all types of schools, Fokus Tanz / Tanz und Schule e.V.’s is building a network of teachers, who work as performance experts at their schools to facilitate cultural projects and theatre visits.

The outreach programme includes introductions to contemporary dance and theatre performances as well as related practical workshops. Both formats provide material for preparing a visit to a performance with different classes.

The project is supported by the Cultural Department of the City of Munich.

On 12 dates during the theatre season, experienced local and national choreographers offer hands-on and practical insights into the field of dance and school. The focus lies on artistic practices, dance techniques, connections to curricula, visits to rehearsals and feedback methods, and on supporting teachers in integrating contemporary dance into the classroom. The three modules Move – Artistic Practices, Braindance – Didactics and Concepts and Meet the Art(ist) – The Round Table complement each other. Regular attendance is recommended.

SUPPORTING MATERIAL

In order to prepare for your visit to the performance and to do some follow-up work on it, we provide supporting material for all plays. In addition to background information on the artistic teams and the content of the piece, this supporting material also contains instructions for practising or playing. You can use them as they are or get inspired to carry out your own choreographic experiments with your class.

The supporting material is developed specifically for the performance and the age group addressed. Impulses for preparatory discussions within your class are often part of the material, which is created by experts in the field of dance for young audiences.

We would be happy to send you examples of supporting material from past productions on request. Please write to info@explore-dance.de
