In a dance battle you are exposed to factors that you cannot control beforehand: How much can I achieve when music, body and skills become one? It’s not just about being the best. It’s much more about your own battles. Using different dance styles, Constantin Trommlitz explores with Tie Break how the format of the dance battle can be a template for personal battles outside the stage.

How is an explore dance pop-up production actually created? And how does the collaboration between children and young people and artists work? This video shows this with an insight into the creation process of Fight for your fairytale by the Dresden-based go plastic company.

Fight for your fairytale was created in close collaboration with young people from the Klotzsche grammar school in Dresden. The collaboration included a joint lab day, several rehearsal visits by the school class, feedback sessions and finally the premiere visit on October 30, 2024 at Klotzsche High School. At the same time, the pupils wrote personal learning diaries in which they documented and reflected on the production process.

On October 12, 2024, explore dance was honored at the German Dance Award ceremony for outstanding development in dance. The network thus received one of the highest and most prestigious awards for dance in Germany. The video clip presented explore dance at the award ceremony in the Aalto Theater in Essen.

PRISMA is based on various children’s books that open up fascinating worlds: sometimes imaginative, like the “wild things”, sometimes microscopically small, with a strange appearance, sometimes in metamorphosis, like the caterpillar that becomes a butterfly. Stories are brought to life when characters, images and stories become movements. Concrete things become abstract, so that new characters emerge and the stories merge into a world that is mysterious, humorous, colorful and unexpected and seems to follow no logic.

In a constantly changing stage landscape made up of colorful, varied shoes, the two dancers Jana Schmück and Mami Kawabata discover the stories and movements behind them. They use the shoes imaginatively and in many different ways as a metaphor for the issues facing the young audience: Where does the shoe pinch? What gets on their nerves? When do they get cold feet?
